Unto Us a Son Is Born

I just love Christmas. It's never really been about the presents for my family, but more about celebrating the birth of Christ and family time. I have very fond memories of Christmas time as a child, but I don't really remember much about the gifts. There are a few Christmases I remember, one time we got Barbies and mom made us several outfits for them. Another time a family friend gave us some huge goldfish, so big we put them in the bathtub, only to come home from church to find they had all jumped out of the tub and had died. One other time we went out looking at Christmas lights only to come home and find that Santa had been by while we were out. We got a talking Ludwig Von Drake that year. He was very high tech. You connected him to a reel to reel tape recorder and he would talk. I think he's still around Daddy's shop somewhere. I mostly remember going to church, being in church plays, singing in the choir, going out caroling and going to Grandma Enloe's for Christmas lunch. I feel very blessed to have had parents that instilled the true meaning of Christmas and not "what's in it for me." We usually got two to three gifts total, not the twenty plus you get now a days. We were taught to worship and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It's harder now a days to not get caught up in the hype, but I pray that we each take some time to thank God for the best Christmas gift ever, His Son. I know that Christ was not born on December 25th, but I don't see any harm in setting aside a day to honor His birth. Wishing you all a blessed and wonderful Christmas.
