I Love Autumn

I just love Autumn, don't you? I always say, "It's my favorite season!" but I love Spring and Summer almost as much. I do have to admit that a snowy, Winter day glistening in the sun is pretty spectacular, as long as I can stay inside. Anyway, back to Autumn. It's so amazing, once you actually know the complexities of the leaves changing, and to know that our God just spoke it into existence. In Gen. 1:14 God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons . . . I've had two recent experiences to observe God's master artistry, first in New Mexico and this past weekend in Canadian, Tx. I'll try not to get too technical, but want to say a word about the actual process of how and why the leaves change. It all begins as the days grow shorter, but are warm and sunny, while the evenings grow cooler. In fact it needs to be 45 degrees or cooler for the process to begin. All summer the leaves have been doing their job of making food for the trees, processing chlorophyll. In fact they make so much the leaves turn green. Did you know the color the leaf turns in the fall is always there, but just masked by the chlorophyll? But in the fall the leaves stop their food-making process. The chlorophyll breaks down and the green color disappears, and the fall colors become visible giving the leaves their Autumn splendor. Isn't our Creator awesome? I can't help but think of the verse in Isa 55:12 For you will go out with joy. And be led forth with peace; The mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, And all the trees of the field will clap their hands. I think I actually witnessed some of the Aspen trees in New Mexico clapping their hands. They were definitely dancing with joy. It makes me want to break out in praise just thinking about it. In 1 Chron 16:33 Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD. So as you are out and about during this spectacular season, join the trees and sing praises to our God, for Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, Psm. 48:1
